Task statuses and stages
Understand the Open and Closed statuses and the five stages a task moves through in Joy.
In Joy, a task is something that you need to do, such as reading a FlexDoc or viewing a file. Each task has a status and a stage so that you can effectively prioritize and manage your work.
Task statuses
Every task has either an Open or Closed status.
Tasks with an Open status are incomplete — you or the user assigned the task still needs to do something. Closed tasks are complete. You can see a task's status by viewing it.
To see a task that's assigned to you, click the More Actions icon, then About. To view a task assigned to someone else, simply click the task.
Task stages
Tasks progress through different stages. These may include the following.
| Stage | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Not started | A task that you haven't started yet. |
| In progress | A task you've started working on. |
| Warning | A task that is due soon. A task typically enters the Warning stage 7 days before its due date, but the person who assigned the task can change this. |
| Overdue | A task that's past its due date. |
| Completed | A task you finished or one that was manually closed. A task in the Completed stage will have its status automatically changed to Closed. |
When you manually close a task, its stage shows as Complete. For details on manually closing a task, see Editing a task.
On the Tasks page, your tasks display in a Kanban view, which organizes them into sections based on their stage. This organization makes it easy to see what you need to do at a glance. You'll see these same stages on each tab of the Tasks page and when you view a task.
