Connecting a system

The general steps to add a connector so Joy can search one of your systems, plus a note on the native SmarterU LMS connector.

Adding a connector brings one of your systems into Joy so its content becomes searchable alongside everything else. Most connectors follow the same short path: pick the system, authorize it, and choose what you want to make searchable. Joy reads the system rather than changing it, so connecting is safe to try. For an overview of what connectors are and how they stay permission-aware, see About connectors.

Add a connector

The exact screens vary by system, but the flow is generally the same.

Choose the system to connect

Open the connector library and pick the system you want to add — for example, your **CRM**, **HRIS**, or **LMS**. Most popular tools have a pre-built connector, so there's usually no code involved.

Authorize the connection

Sign in to the system and grant JoySuite access. Depending on the tool, this might be a one-time admin approval or a per-user sign-in. Connectors request read-only access by default, so Joy can search the system without making changes to it.

Choose what to make searchable

Select the content you want included — such as specific sites, spaces, folders, or record types. Only the areas you choose become searchable, and each user's existing permissions still apply on top of your selection.

Finish and start asking

Save the connector. Once its content is available, you can search the system on its own or in cross-system questions that span it and your other tools.

How setup varies by system

Because every system handles access differently, the details of authorizing and selecting content change from one connector to the next. Here are a few examples of how the same three steps look across different tools:

In Google Drive, share the folders you want to sync with your JoySuite service account, then paste each folder link when you add the connector. New files sync automatically.

The SmarterU LMS connector

SmarterU has a native connector that goes a step further than a standard integration. Rather than only making content searchable, it makes your LMS fully conversational — you can ask about enrollments, completions, and learner activity in plain language.

Setup for the SmarterU connector follows the same idea — authorize the connection, then choose what to make available — but the specific fields differ. Exact steps for this connector are pending review.

As with every connector, the SmarterU connection is permission-aware and read-only by default, and it works alongside your LMS rather than replacing it.
