Exporting a FlexDoc

How to export a FlexDoc page as a PDF or a Markdown file, or print it.

Sometimes you need a copy of a FlexDoc outside Joy, such as a form to print and fill in by hand or a checklist. You can export any FlexDoc as a PDF or a Markdown file.

Two tips help you get the export you want:

  • Joy exports the page you're on.
  • The page is exported as you see it.

Choosing a format

You can export a FlexDoc page in two formats.

PDF gives you a clean, print-ready copy of the page, with its formatting and images in place. It's a good choice for printing or sharing with people outside Joy.

Markdown gives you a simple text file (MD) that you can open and edit in many apps. It keeps your text along with its headings, bold and italics, lists, quotes, code, links, and tables. These are marked with symbols such as # for a heading. Images, videos, polls, drawings, and other embedded content aren't part of the Markdown file. If the page relies on an image or diagram, also export the page as a PDF.

Opening the page you want to export

To open the page you want to export, follow these steps.

Go to the Knowledge Center.

Find the FlexDoc.

You can browse the folders or use the Search bar.

Click the FlexDoc.

The FlexDoc panel opens.

Click the  More Actions icon, then Edit Content or Open in new tab.

Edit Content appears only if you can edit the FlexDoc. Either option opens the FlexDoc full screen.

In the tree menu, click the page you want to export.

The page opens. Next, export it as a PDF or Markdown file.

Exporting a page as a PDF

To export a page as a PDF, follow these steps.

Click the  More Actions icon, then Export as PDF.

The Print window opens.

Select Save as PDF as the destination.

The name of this option depends on your browser. For example, Firefox calls it Save to PDF.

Click Save.

You can choose the file's name and where it goes on your device. Your PDF is then ready to open or share.

To get a paper copy instead, select your printer as the destination, then click Print.

Exporting a page as Markdown

To export a page as Markdown, follow these steps.

Click the  More Actions icon, then Export as Markdown.

Joy downloads an MD file named after the FlexDoc, such as Safety procedures.md. You'll find it in your browser's downloads.

Every page you export from the same FlexDoc gets the same file name. If you export several pages, rename each file as you go so they're easy to tell apart.
