Navigating Joy
Learn where everything is in Joy and how to get around.
Joy is built around a few key areas and a handful of on-screen elements that repeat throughout the system. Once you're familiar with them, you can find your way anywhere.
Key areas in Joy
- Knowledge Assistant: Your AI-powered companion that provides instant answers, generates content, and more. Access it from the menu or the floating Knowledge Assistant icon.
- Knowledge Center: Where all your knowledge assets live, such as files, links, and FlexDocs.
- Tasks: Where you can see tasks assigned to you and tasks you've assigned to others.
- Management Center: Where you can manage users, Assistants, branding, and more.
Navigation
Main menu
The main menu runs along the side of the screen and lets you quickly switch between the key areas in Joy.
Tree menu
Depending on where you are, you may see a tree menu that can help you navigate within a specific area. For example, in the Knowledge Center the tree menu shows all of your folders arranged in a hierarchy so you can quickly find the content you need.
Tips for finding things quickly
- Search: Use the search bar to quickly find what you need. You can find one on most pages.
- Ask the Knowledge Assistant: If you're not sure where to find something, ask the Knowledge Assistant. It can point you to the right content, bring it up right in the chat, or answer questions about it.
Common on-screen elements
There are several common on-screen elements that appear throughout Joy. Recognizing them makes the system feel familiar, no matter which area you are in.
Cards
A card is a rectangular tile that shows key details about an item, like its name, type, and status. A user's card, for example, shows the person's name, title, and avatar. Click a card to open the item.
Panels
Most items in Joy open in a panel that appears as an overlay locked to one side of the screen.
Use the icons at the top of a panel to pop it out into its own window () or make it fill the screen (). Most panels can also be resized by dragging the edge.
Tabs
Tabs are used to organize information into different sections. For example, within the User Admin panel, the Overview tab provides a summary of the user and their progress, while the Details tab allows you to view more information about the user and edit their settings. Tabs allow you to switch between different sections without leaving a panel or screen.
Preview/Manage toggle
Some panels feature a Preview/Manage toggle. Use it to switch between previewing an object (such as a FlexDoc, file, or other asset) and managing its settings.
Edit icon
Click the Edit icon to make changes to a user, asset, or other item.
More Actions icon
Click the More Actions icon to see a list of actions you can take on an item. You will find this icon on cards, panels, and throughout the system. The options shown depend on the item and your permissions.
Save icon
Click the Save icon to save your work after creating or editing an item.
User Profile menu
The User Profile menu appears at the bottom of the main menu and lets you personalize your Joy experience. It shows your name, avatar, and access level. Click it to access the options below.
If you see someone else's name, log out and log back in with your own credentials.
Changing the display language
You can choose what language Joy displays in. The main menu, buttons, panels, and other on-screen elements will appear in the language you select. Folders and assets in the Knowledge Center remain in their original language.
To change your display language:
Click the User Profile menu.
Select Language.
Select your preferred language from the list.
If you have the User access level, your language selection lasts until you log out, close your browser, or log in on a different device. If you have Admin access, your selection persists across sessions.
Changing the theme
Joy supports several themes so you can choose what looks best on your screen. To change the theme:
Click the User Profile menu.
Select Theme.
Choose Light, Dark, System (matches your device setting), or High Contrast.
