About the FlexDoc Editor

An overview of the FlexDoc Editor and its key parts, including the header, pages tree menu, toolbars, and the / menu.

The FlexDoc Editor is a powerful tool in Joy where you create professional and flexible documents known as FlexDocs. Quickly build rich documents featuring pages, text, images, tables, lists, AI-generated content, and more. Then, when you're ready, publish the FlexDoc to share it with your users.

The Editor has several key parts. Being familiar with them will help you as you add content to your FlexDoc.

At the top of the FlexDoc Editor is the header, where you see the FlexDoc's name. You can quickly rename a FlexDoc by hovering over the name and clicking the  Edit icon.

Depending on the current state of your FlexDoc, you'll see different buttons in the header:

Button When it appears What it does
Create Draft You are viewing a published FlexDoc Creates an editable version of your FlexDoc where you can make changes to its contents
Save Draft You have made changes to the FlexDoc's draft Saves your updates without publishing them
View You are viewing the FlexDoc's draft Shows the published version of the FlexDoc so you can compare it to your draft
Publish You are viewing the FlexDoc's draft Makes your changes visible to other users
Edit Draft You clicked View and are now viewing the published version Returns to the draft so you can continue editing

The  More Actions icon gives you options to view the FlexDoc's version history and export it as a PDF or Markdown file.

Pages tree menu

A FlexDoc is made up of one or more pages. All the pages in your FlexDoc are listed in a tree menu, allowing you to easily scan your content and navigate quickly. Click any page to view and edit its contents.

Toolbar

Use the toolbar for easy access to editing and formatting options, or to insert images, videos, and tables. You can also use it to access AI tools that help you generate and refine your content.

If you're using a mouse or trackpad, hover over any icon in the toolbar to learn what it does.

Floating toolbar

When you highlight content in the editor, a floating toolbar appears. The options displayed depend on what you have highlighted. For example, the options when text is selected differ from those when you have an image selected.

The / menu

Press the / key on your keyboard to display a list of useful options to quickly format your text, add images, and more. See Managing content for everything you can add from this menu.
