Managing custom commands
Learn how to create a custom command to turn a reusable prompt into a one-click shortcut.
Most teams have a "perfect prompt" that lives in one person's head: the exact wording that produces a meeting summary, a proposal document, or a friendly email the way your organization likes it. Custom commands turn that prompt into a reusable shortcut that lives inside a Knowledge Assistant, so everyone runs it the same way and gets similar results every time.
A custom command is a saved prompt that belongs to a specific Knowledge Assistant. For example, a "summarize" command could condense a long document into key points, or a "translate" command could convert content into another language.

Command fields and settings
The New Command and Edit Command windows include the following fields:
-
Command Name: A short, clear name for the command (for example, Meeting summary or Weekly status update). This is how people will identify the command in the Assistant.
-
Enabled: Whether the command is available to people using the Assistant. Turn this toggle off to disable the command without deleting it.
-
Type: The type of command. Currently, all commands are Custom. More types are coming soon.
-
Category: A way to group related commands together. Select an existing category or type a new one. Commands in the same category appear together in the Commands pane.
-
Description: A short summary of what the command does. This often appears alongside the command name when browsing commands.
-
Prompt: The instructions that tell the Assistant what to do when someone runs the command. Write it exactly as you would type a prompt in a chat.
-
Enable guided mode: Whether the prompt is hidden from the person running the command. When it's on, they see your guidance and can add their own details, but they can't see or edit the prompt. When it's off, the prompt is added to the chat so they can edit it before sending.
Understanding command modes
When you create or edit a custom command, you can choose one of two modes. The mode controls what happens when someone runs the command:
- In template mode (the default), the person sees the prompt and can edit it before sending. This mode works well when people will want to customize the wording of the prompt.
- In guided mode, the person sees only the guiding text that you provide, not the prompt itself. While they can provide extra details in the chat, they can't edit the prompt. This mode works well when consistency matters, for example a compliance check or a standardized report.
Use template mode when you want to give people a strong starting prompt that they can adjust. Use guided mode when the wording of the prompt matters and shouldn't change (compliance checks, standardized reports).
-
Guidance: The instructions that someone sees when they choose a guided-mode command. This field appears when you turn on Enable guided mode.
